About FRR

1992 - The Beginning

On a warm summer night in 1992, four nineteen-year-olds sat in a cluttered garage in Ventura, California. In front of them lay the stripped-down frame of a Yamaha FZ—every part scattered across the floor, waiting to be brought back to life. As they looked over the mess of metal and parts, an idea sparked—a shared drive for speed and performance.

They talked about how to rebuild the bike, driven by excitement and the challenge of seeing how far they could push its 600cc engine, even with their limited funds. The air buzzed with energy and hope. As they studied the bare frame beside a pile of Airtech Fairings, one phrase broke through the noise and stuck: “Freedom Rock Racing—Just Tune It Up.” And with that, a dream was born, one that would stay with them for years to come.

In the days that followed that night, the engine was carefully rebuilt, the bike given a fresh coat of paint, and the scattered parts brought back together into a shining machine. Before long, the roar of their creation echoed through the canyons and tracks of Southern California.

Driven by a hunger for speed, the group kept pushing their limits—testing both their bikes and themselves. Each ride became a mix of courage and control, every turn a chance to go faster than before. In chasing that rush, they sharpened their skills and strengthened their bond, pushing each other to ride harder and live for the thrill.

What Freedom Rock Racing stood for 30 years ago still means just as much today. The wild, fast-paced chase for adrenaline has slowed down, but the remaining members still ride on, connected by the same passion that started it all.

The idea behind Freedom Rock Racing is simple: to live with freedom and friendship at the core of everything. It’s about pushing limits, enjoying the thrill of the ride, and valuing the bonds built along the way. On the track or in life, it’s a promise to stay driven—to keep growing, keep moving forward, and keep the spirit of FRR alive.

FREEDOM

The sensation of freedom that envelops you when you’re on a bike, in a car, or gripping the wheel of an SXS is unparalleled. It’s the exhilarating rush of hammering down the throttle, feeling the raw power of the  engine , whether it’s roaring ahead, behind, or cradled between your legs.

In those moments, there’s a fierce liberation in pushing your equipment to its limits, testing its endurance without hesitation. The thrill of speed and the adrenaline coursing through your veins create an intoxicating blend of excitement and defiance. It’s a relentless pursuit of the edge, a dance with danger that shows no mercy, inviting you to embrace the wild ride of life itself.

ROCK

Embrace whatever you climb into or straddle with unbridled enthusiasm, and refuse to settle for anything less than exhilarating. Push it to its fullest extent—ride, drive, or race until it can go no further. When it falters, don’t shy away; fix it, learn from the experience, and dive back in.

This relentless pursuit of excellence demands that you challenge the limits, transforming “meh” into something extraordinary. Each setback becomes an opportunity to grow stronger, to innovate, and to chase the thrill with renewed vigor. Keep pushing, keep evolving—let the journey be as fierce and dynamic as the machines that carry you through it.

RACING

Compete not with others, but with yourself, relentlessly seeking to surpass your own accomplishments. Let each milestone be a stepping stone toward a greater version of who you can become, embracing the transformative power of growth along the way. In the same spirit, inspire your friends to chase their passions with unwavering determination, urging them to push the boundaries of their potential, all while honoring their unique abilities and personal pace.

When a challenge presents itself, approach it with unwavering resolve, giving it your all. The true essence of the journey lies not in competing against others, but in cultivating a spirit of camaraderie, mutual support, and boundless ambition. Together, you can ignite each other's potential, inspiring one another to reach heights previously thought unattainable. Every ride becomes an opportunity—not only for personal growth and discovery, but for shared triumphs that bind you closer, creating a legacy of adventure and collective strength.

Born and raised in the picturesque coastal town of Ventura, Dave stands as the heart and soul of FRR. His journey began behind the parts counter of a local motorcycle shop, where he first crossed paths with the other members of the team. It was there that he not only forged lasting friendships but also ignited a shared passion for mechanics and motorbikes.

From his humble garage to Kenn’s workshop,  to Leo’s Body Shop, Dave has always been a steadfast presence, turning wrenches and imparting his extensive knowledge to fellow enthusiasts. Fearless in his pursuit of understanding, he often dives headfirst into complex projects, dismantling and rebuilding engines while guiding others through each intricate step.

Moreover, Dave is equally at ease behind the camera, capturing the spirit and camaraderie of the team he cherishes. His multifaceted contributions, both technical and creative, are the glue that binds FRR together, inspiring all who have the privilege to work alongside him. Dave has appeared on both  Fox's Simple Life and Paramounts Bar Rescue.

One of the founding members of our team, Kenn was in that garage one fateful night in Ventura, California.  Now he calls Washington State home. After surviving a serious motorcycle accident—a stroke of fortune that allowed him to walk away—he redirected his quest for adrenaline into the realm of diverse machines and vehicles.

For the past two decades, Kenn has dedicated himself to the art of tinkering, immersing himself in a variety of vehicles, both on and off-road. His thirst for knowledge drives him to spend countless hours researching, testing, and fabricating parts, all in pursuit of enhancing the driving experience. Chasing the ultimate adrenaline rush, he embraces a thrilling journey that continually pushes the boundaries of comfort and fear. For Kenn, this pursuit is not just about the thrill; it’s an exploration of limits and an embrace of the unknown—a testament to the enduring spirit of human resilience.

Whether navigating the sun-kissed dunes, traversing the rugged desert, or meticulously fine-tuning performance on the dyno, Kenn seizes every opportunity to push his vehicles to their limits. His unwavering passion for speed and performance serves as a reminder that while the ride may change, the thrill of the chase remains eternal.

Aaron was one of those rare souls who would give you the shirt off his back without a second thought. A true friend, he embraced life with an infectious enthusiasm that made every moment spent together unforgettable. We shared countless nights and early mornings at his father’s body shop, Leo’s Paint & Body Shop in Ventura, CA, where his mastery as a mechanic was only rivaled by his passion for fishing, NASCAR racing, and the great outdoors.

With a heart as kind as it was tender, Aaron had an uncanny ability to bring people together. His quick laugh and engaging stories made him a beloved figure among friends, many of whom affectionately dubbed him "Redneck." The team misses those hour-long conversations that effortlessly drifted from laughter to deep reflection, as well as the vibrant personality that lit up every gathering. Aaron wasn’t just a friend; he was a reminder of the joy in simplicity and the beauty of life.

Jun was an incredible rider, a true friend, and one of the funniest people you could ever meet. With his fearless spirit, he pushed the limits of his CB400, gaining a reputation for his impressive traffic light endos that left everyone in awe. In the garage, where we turned wrenches and shared laughter, you could always count on Jun to stir up some good-natured mischief. As the undisputed king of practical jokes, he had a knack for bringing joy to even the longest days, making us laugh until our sides hurt.

Jun had an insatiable curiosity for new technology, constantly introducing innovative ideas that kept our group energized and excited. But beyond his infectious humor and tech-savvy mind, what truly set him apart was his unwavering support. He was always ready to drop everything and lend a helping hand whenever needed, embodying the spirit of friendship. You are deeply missed, Jun, and the void you left in our lives is felt every day.
